Do you have the correct inbound port(s) mapped inward through your firewall to your machine running the Torrent client? That's the #1 key to good torrent speed. And most clients these days generate random inbound ports to use when first set up, so if one client's port is mapped and another isn't, then that would explain the speed differences.
