What do I gain > from using the jeOS release over the Server release? besides something different between the two kernels, I don't know. I did take a peek at the init scripts and there are far fewer subsystems started and I presume not installed. Having to install everything which comes with apt-get install build-essential and linux-headers-$(uname -r) to build vmware modules showed the install at over 400 MB and yes, that's way too big for a Just Enough OS. With Gutsy, I have a package removal script which trimmed it down to under 300MB after a server install. I've not asked dpkg to list what is installed to see what might still be trimmed but will eventually. dpkg -l IIRC.
