But, if you load special drivers, you can get some of that back. Like using VMware tools to get graphics, network, etc performance boosts. Before the CPUs had this kind of virtualization support, you'd see a good hit for virtualizing and possibly in the 20%-30% range. Now, with the CPU supporting this and your virtualization platform using those CPU services, your plain-old virtual machines only see around 10% performance hits. Or so I've heard.
