If buy flat panel display make sure you get the extended warranty. The lcd's
and gas plasmas always develop bad pixels and or display fading over time. If
you have display problems they will replace the display if it is still under
warranty. The great thing is that the extended service warranty is cheap. For a
gas plasma it's only $150 for a 5 or 7yr plan. So if have a dead pixel you tell
them you want it replaced.

Subject: OT: HDTV suggestions

All,
So, I am thinking of going HD and at the same time reclaiming some of
the space that the tube TVs I have now eat up in both my bedroom and
den.
I am thinking 40" in the bedroom (to be 3ft past the foot of the bed.
Maybe a little bigger (52") in the den which will be about 7.5ft from
ones head when watching.
I don't feel I need high-end. But, I'd like not to see too much if any
back-light when the screen is supposed to be black. It's so hard to tell
a difference between the units at Fry's when I just went to look. Are
Samsung's OK ? The price seems right. :o)
I am also not sure what to do with all of the components that are now
under or beside the systems. I am hoping to reclaim some of the depth of
the existing systems.
Any thought or advice from those that have gone before me ?

Thanks,
Mike
