Mine's a 1701HG.

I'm paying for 3Mbps down / 512kbps up, and I get roughly 1.5Mbps down
/ 430 kbps up. When I was paying for 1.5Mbps down (same line, same
modem), I was getting between 1.0Mbps and 1.25Mbps. (I don't recall
upload speeds from then.)

I actually haven't spoken with an AT&T tech about it yet. It was only
just recently that the higher-speed service was made available in my
neighborhood, so it may be growing pains of some sort (though they
shouldn't advertise 3Mbps if they can only provide half that).

I'll google around a bit. I was mainly asking because I didn't know
whether the local modem could have the same kind of effect on speed as
Gregory mentioned with his cable service.
