Is there a way to get find to not trip on spaces in filenames?

Put it in quotes, or escape it. Probably other ways too.

$ touch 'foo bar'
$ find . -name 'foo bar'
./foo bar
$ find . -name foo\ bar
./foo bar

Well that's the "shell" not handling spaces properly (or how you 'expect' it should handle them), not find's problem
