Uh..I think you have just given us a reason why math folks do need to be
discounted sometimes. :)

There is a WHOLE lot more state in a cpu such as the ARM that can affect the 
outcome of
any particular piece of code. Just comparing the results of each machine
instruction in a purely functional way tests only a very tiny part of all
of the cpu's functionality.
