If you accomplished the task you set out to do it means you completely understood the problem at hand. Macromedia Director files weren't the problem. Getting whatever you needed out of them was.

I agree with Chris and BLQ. If you can implement it correctly you understand the problem. I see this as being similar to teaching someone else the problem: If you can properly teach someone else to understand the problem you yourself understand it. This is part of the reason why grad students are required to teach and it is also part of the reason why time spent as a flight instructor (something I myself am working on becoming) teaching other pilots is highly valued by potential pilot employers

And I think the majority of your email(s) is useless pedantry liable to discourage Chris and possibly others from pursuing a very good idea.
