I've used a rental car's "alternative emergency brake" (throwing the car
in reverse) while doing 60 mph a
few times. You need to hit the gas just before throwing it into reverse
else you're likely to stall the car. My friend who
was following behind noticed that the backup lights came on :)
Interestingly enough, the speedometer immediately
pegged to the negative when I did it. This was also fun to do in a
concrete parking lot. Lots of noise! ;)

That's hardly a recipe for for flipping around backwards.
You have obviously never used the "emergency break" why going down the
road > 50 mph (or if you have, been very, very lucky).
