Many self-taught programmers are not aware of algorithms and do not
understand their use or implementation. I recently had the chance to
make use of a bloom filter for the first time. I never would have
known about that as a possible solution to my problem had I not
studied some algorithms on my own. This link has lots of useful
algorithms and implementations:

"Introduction to algorithms" is still on my reading list. I'll get
there someday...

I kinda like studying things which I know are classic and will never
change. It seems unlikely that a good knowledge of algorithms will
ever be obsoleted.
