Why do you think that "Linux" should have a check mark symbol? Linux is an operating system kernel, or perhaps a software distribution. If your question is really "how do I make my Linux system produce a check mark symbol on a piece of printed output?" then there might be an answer. There is a "square root" sign in the "Symbol" character set. There are all sorts of things in the "Dingbat" character set.
