I don't know about this particular box.  However, most irrigation timer
controls are just electrical controllers.  The electrically-controlled
mechanical actuators are in the manifold for the watering system.

We had a system put in our house recently.  In our case there are two zones for
sprinklers on a small lawn and several drip irrigation zones.
