Which DVD Writer

I am looking to buy a DVD read/writer for home use.  I am running Ubuntu 
7.04.  My question is which brand/model of DVD writer to buy.  Are they 
pretty much all supported on Linux or are there some that work better 
than others? Conversely, are there some to avoid?
