Here are a couple of statements taken from the Ubuntu
site.
"Once I have installed Ubuntu, will I be able to
upgrade to the next release?
"We fully support upgrades from one release to the
next. However, we do not support upgrades that skip a
release. Thus we support upgrades from 5.10 to 6.06,
but not from 5.04 to 6.06 unless you first upgrade to
5.10."
"Quick and easy updates
"The task bar contains an update area where we'll
notify you when there are updates available for your
system, from simple security fixes to a complete
version upgrade. The update facility enables you to
keep your system up-to-date with just a few clicks of
your mouse."
I upgraded to 7.04 from the previous version. When the
upgrade becomes available you will be notified by the
update notification applet. A few clicks and the
upgrade was accomplished without a hitch. No need to
uninstall the previous version. The whole process
except for the clicks and the download time, was
transparent. When it booted up I had lost nothing.
This was when I became convinced that these people are
for real.
I should add that I try and stick with the software
recommended by Ubuntu, which has not been a problem
for me since I like their choices. But that may
explain why my upgrade went so smoothly.
