There's no need for what you ask rm link_to_target removes the link, not the target. You should repeat the experiment (making sure you use disposable junkfiles, this time ;-) ). I don't know what you may have done in your first test that gave you the wrong impression. But a careful repeat is recommended. Here's my experiment-log: - - - ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1036$ echo hello >hi ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1037$ cat hi hello ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1038$ ln -s hi ho ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1039$ ls -l ho lrwxrwxrwx 1 jsack jsack 2 2008-02-08 11:48 ho -> hi ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1040$ cat ho hello ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1041$ rm ho ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1042$ cat hi hello ([EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp)1043$ ls ho ls: cannot access ho: No such file or directory - - - >..
