Hi:
At the tech bookstore today I was the guy on the end with his laptop
who you'all were helping to load Ubantu linux today...we figured it
was the memory, and I came home and immediately got on ebay and
ordered that 256 memory card to add to mine, but it'll take a few
days...
Meanwhile I decided to keep fiddling w/this thing, since I'm still
not convinced it's the memory, but anyway, what I tried was I put the
Ubantu disk I had brought with me in again, and this time I tried
something that *almost* worked once, which was rather than start
"install" right away, I started first w/the disc/check, which for
some unkown reason, first does kind of check the cd for faults, and
then starts to install...
Anyway, it actually started installing the damn thing, you know,
asked for my name, and where I lived, and then kicked in to how I
wanted to partition the disk, and I'm clueless, but basically I kept
clicking on the one they recommended, and everything was working
fine, and it kept installing, but then it kicked back, saying it had
some failure with the *partition*, and kicked me back to the
partition questions, so since the recommended one hadn't worked, I
clicked on the one that said it would be *guided* but that it would
just use the most free disk space it could find...or something like
that...
Anyway, it's slowing down :-( ...but still installing, and it's at
50 per cent according to the little dealie ... so maybe I'll get
lucky... I know today, no matter what we tried it wouldn't install,
so I'm all hopeful, and if I'm wrong and it *is* just the memory,
that should be coming in a few days, too, so I'll let you all know
what happens....btw, I'm the old white bearded guy who was on the end
spilling donut powdered sugar all over everything ;-)
Thanks again for all the help today, really enjoyed it and learned so
much...
back to watching my screen at least now it's got some visual movement...
geff
p.s. One of you left your ubantu 7.10 disk in my laptop....I tried
again getting that to load, since that was already on my hard drive,
but it still wouldn't do it, and so I'm trying again the ubantu disk
I brought with me, and it's still plowing away, around 56 per cent
now....
