I forgot to say that iperf seems to be available from standard package repositories. On ubuntu, apt-get install iperf on fedora yum install iperf On windows, the google search I mentioned yields http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ which seems to have (old version) windows downloads (not tested by me).
