I have a motherboard that maxes out at 1G, but has 2 slots for ram.

Would I lose any memory performance with DDR memory if I just use one 1G
DIMM, vs. 2, 512 DIMMs?

Answer is a definite maybe.
It depends on the memory controller on the MB. Some will do
time-interleaved access to two DIMMs, and give faster access.
Memtest86 is your friend. You can check 2x512 vs. 1x512 to see if
there is a speedup with two.

Interesting, I don't think I've ever noticed a speed part of memtest, I'll have to take a second look. Thanks.
