Carl,
Under slackware, I have edited /etc/rc.d/rc.font to read:
      setfont -v default8x16.psfu.gz -m trivial

Now, when i view any characters in the upper ascii table, they appear correct when using vim, joe, pico,...
Note: this only works on consoles and NOT on a desktop, and anytime
   reset
is entered on the command line, the mapping table is removed and /etc/rc.d/rd.font needs to be executed again.


kernel: 2.4.33.3
vim: 7.0.109
