I'd like to propose a talk for a Th night KPLUG meeting. Many
people don't know about the history of open source and copyright. This talk
would give them a history lesson and possibly dispel some popular
misconceptions. See abstract below. Comments welcome.

Creation Myths: Three Centuries Of Open Source And Copyright

We have enjoyed the benefits of various types of "open source" for about three
hundred years. We have also had a copyright system for about three hundred
years as well.

Many myths about the history of open source and copyright persist today. By
learning about the last 300 years of open source, and how it relates to
copyright, we can avoid falling victim to these misconceptions.

This talk will describe this history and how open source has flourished for 300
years with and without the help of copyright.
