I'll volunteer to be the August KPLUG meeting speaker if we can find a room with a projector and if someone will post the following to the web site.
Cryptography Clarified : An overview of major cryptography concepts and algorithms Cryptography is essential in digital communication. Ignorance of cryptography can cause people to use communication technologies incorrectly and even unsafely. This talk will give an overview of major cryptography concepts and algorithms. Topics covered will include the purpose of cryptography, the Diffie-Hellman algorithm, symmetric cryptography, asymmetric cryptography, AES, RSA, digital signatures, PKI, certificate authorities, elliptical cryptography, one way functions (hashes), quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution. The main goal of this talk will be to advance everyone's understanding without getting so mathematical that we lose anybody. We want to expose just enough details in the short time we have to effectively help us correctly and safely communicate a little better. About the author: Chris Seberino is a mathematical software consultant with a Ph.D. in physics from UCSD. One of his previous work experiences for the Department of Defense involved supporting the National Security Agency (NSA) as a customer. He implemented many open and classified cryptographic algorithms to help simulate, test and certify hardware for the HAIPE project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAIPE). -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-steer
