The main gear struts are off the airplane. This after-the-fact
de-installation without tearing the stub wing apart is akin to extracting
two of your own teeth without benefit of Novocain or booze. For these
tail-dragger struts Larry Flesner had suggested filling in the old holes
with flox and re-drilling new holes to get the rake back needed for 20-inch
wheel location. After some careful measurements and wishful thinking I
concluded: Ain't gonna happen. The NV Aero website says that also. The
tri-gear and tail dragger versions are not interchangeable.
So, need a set of tri-gear main struts. I had an offer to buy my old set
for a tail dragger under construction. These would bolt in with no prep. I
am going to hold on to them for a while until I get the new struts
installed; need the old struts for match-drill hole pattern for my spar
brackets.
