Dan, did you weigh these things? After looking at http://krbuilder.org/FirewallForward/CableClamps/AllPics/Cable_Clamps_20050112_12.jpg, I took four each similar length 3/16 bolts, nuts, and washers and weighed them...36 grams. Then I added in a piece of aluminum that looks to be about the same size as you used and it was 60 grams. Subtract out the holes and it might be 50 grams. Total clamp weight is about 86 grams, which is over three ounces each. Contrast that with the equivalent aluminum AN742-D4 clamp that does that same job (19 cents at AS&S), and it weighs less than three grams. And you can clamp it to the engine case for "free" if you bolt it under the head of an existing bolt, like I did on my engine. So you are correct that it is the ultimate clamp, but is it worth 28x the weight of what is normal practice on certified airplanes? Throw in a figure-8 of safety wire that weighs a gram to definitely immobilize the cable and your clamp is still 21x heavier. This stuff adds up, and before you know it you're flying a porker...
