Joe, I always advised my customers to get a valve job done with new stainless valves even on a new car. The issue is that OEM VW valves were made in two pieces, the head and stem were electron beam welded and machined to final shape.
I use Manley stainless valves. They are one piece and strong. That does not mean they can not ever break but more rare than with stock. Vale care is critical in VW's. Another thing to remember is these heads were designed for fan forced air cooling from the top center of the head. Trying to cool in the horizontal is extremely difficult. The rear cylinders particularly the exhaust side don't get an equal share of the airflow in horizontal cooling. John El Paso In a message dated 8/3/2015 6:26:15 A.M.
