the article suggests laying on a coat of black primer before filling, to
help visualize the topography during sanding. ?

also, I just watched a documentary on how the guy (custom car builder) made
the shuttle craft for the original star trek (its on youtube). he mentioned
using 3ft sanding boards which they custom made (said they can be bought
today). so maybe thats a key, use a very long, reinforced with a vertical,
sanding board.

You should have three ?board all different lengths and you should also have
one that bends. Like on a thin piece of plywould or plexiglass for the
double contour curves.

Never use bondo. Sands poorly and cracks due to low cohesive strength. Peter

Hi Guys,
When I was building, Bill Clapp told me about a filling product used in the
automotive paint shops called ?Icing?. This is a two part filler. It is
absolutely the easiest filler I have ever sanded. It is super lightweight
and will feather out on the edges exceptionally well. I used it all over my
KR. It goes a long way so if you decide to try it buy the smallest tube
which is about 24 ounces. It cost about $25.
Try it, you will be glad you did.

Depending on how low the low spots are, The best thing to use is a stick
slurry of micro and resin. Don't go to thick just fill the low spots. Then
use the stuff Mark Jones talked about icing to feather out any small areas

Hi mark,
We did the wings and the lower part of the fuselage with micro. In a few
weeks we will start to finish everything. Do you have a brand name of the
icing, google come up with 3M. Is that the lightweight stuf?
Monday we will do a weight and balance check To calculate the engine
position. En start with the engine mount. So my dad will start sending, I do
de mount.

Hi guys,
Monday we will do a weight and balance check to calculate the engine
position. We did build a KR-2 but did extend the tail like an kr2-s, have
the old kr2 wings but with the extension like the kr2-s. Fire wall is
reinforced for the more powerful engine but have no two inch extension to
the front. Can you guys give me the advice what you should use for the fwd
and aft gravity point? I think I can use the drawing dimensions. Result will
be more space after the engine.

15% to 35% Mac is a good estimate. You should
recalculate hour Mac as it sounds like this is a unique configuration.

I used the firewall, figuring that, that location would never change.

Stef,

You and your dad have done some fine work on your KR.

Use the CG location established in the plans but don't use the rear
two inches of the CG. The CG is based on the wing plan form, not
what is attached to the wing. It is based on the center of lift for
that wing shape. Place your engine to keep you in the CG range with
different loading configurations. More forward is best.

Here is the web site for 3M.

  http://3mcollision.com/products/fillers-and-glaze

This is available in the U.S. at most autoparts stores and auto paint
suppliers.

Amazon has it as well as another brand product.

The one to use is made by "U.S. Chemicals and Plastics". The tube is white
with red lettering. It says USC ICING on the tube.

The plans call for using 8 inches - 16 inches of the wing cord. So forward
