Not to be a pain Art, or contradict Steve Bennett, but in the 12 years of
working on all makes of auto engines with aluminum heads, unless anti-seize was
used religiously, it was a mistake to attempt removal of the plugs from a HOT
engine due to the plgs having a different expansion rate than the heads, due to
dis-similar metals. If doing a re-build one might consider prior to head
re-installation using steel plug threads by installing steel thread inserts,
available at most auto supply houses. This eliminates the different metal issue
and allows plug removal hot or cold. Steel to steel presents no problems to
removal unless either overtorqued, or extensive time since last removal (rust
accumulation etc...).
