Gary, I'm a cheepskate and like to buy things used however preformed
fiberglass parts are not an area to chince out in, I bought used Diehl skins
and believe it's part of the problem I've been having with mine (if you've
been folowing the recent posts titled "diehl wingskin washout").When you buy
used, especialy sight unseen, you dont know how long they may have been
sitting in the garage improperly suported, and therfore suffering from
creep. I know your question wasn't new vs. used but I thought I'd throw that
in.
I don't know anything about the Rand skins but I'm fairly happy with the
Diehl skins. One problem I had was the area where there is no Clarkfoam
didn't exactly line up with the spars(Clarkfoam is 1/4" foam sandwiched
between the two layors of fiberglass and the area where the spars attach
doesn't have Clarkfoam).
Dan is fairly easy to get ahold of and is friendly and helpful.
As far as the fumes go it's what you your wife/roommate can tolerate.
Vinylester does have a strong smell. But you get use to it. Sanding the
stuff is no joy it melts into your sandpaper and soon your sanding with
vinylpaper. however if you do things right you shouldn't have to sand a
whole lot.
Enjoy . Dan
