Its open enrollment time again at America West Airlines for benefits.
When I was renewing my life insurance policies I made an interesting discovery.
I
was told that if I crashed and killed myself as pilot in command that the
insurance would not pay. If I was to die in a plane crash the only way they
would
pay is if I was a passenger. I asked, if I was to ride a motorcycle to work
every day and I was in an accident, would I be covered under that police? They
told me yes! This brings up a few of questions.

1) Has any one else seen anything like this with their insurance and where do
you get supplemental insurance that covers this sort of thing and is it
reasonably priced.

2) I have to ride in the cock pit all of the time as a mechanic, would they
try to weasel out of paying by saying that I was in the flight deck so I was a
crew member even though I was just hitching a ride in the open jumpseat?

I guess as private pilots was should all look into our policies closely. It
would be a shame if something was to happen and our families were left with
nothing.

Something to think about.
