Mac and netters Without having a time machine, which also does not qualify for the LSA rules, you are not going to change the documented history of the KR or any other aircraft.
I have been saying this from the beginning, if one checks the archives; 1) LSA & ELSA is not meant to allow for an expansion of General Aviation as EAA or some manufacturers would like for you to believe. Dana Overall and I wrote many times explaining how its main purpose was to bring under certification, Classes and Categories of aircraft previously not closely regulated in the past. Some have found creative ways to profit from the rule changes, and open up opportunity. I am pleased to see that. 2) Aircraft previously certificated in another category CANNOT be modified into LSA. Again I went to the trouble to make a long post sighting this from the commentary of the FAA, just days after it was made available in the hopes that no one would make an investment in a KR with the plan to change it into LSA from straight Experimental. That was my motivation; to save someone's frustration and anger. Gentlemen: Dana and I have been very clear as to the intent from the FAA. 1) No previously certified aircraft can be changed in to LSA. That is not the purpose of the rules, quoted straight from the FAA commentary. It is not your "right", it is a priviledge to fly, just as it is to drive. 2) Anyone who has ever been denied a medical, OR KNOWINGLY has any condition that would prevent a medical from being issued, or disqualify a pilot to be PIC CANNOT FLY AN LSA AIRCRAFT USING HIS DRIVERS LICENSE IN LIEU OF THE MEDICAL! It is not just an issue about safety. If something happens, and you are found to not qualify, and you were acting as PIC, no insurance company is required to pay, including life insurance, and you are subject to laws of prosecution and suit for neglect or if involving death (maybe even serious permanent injury ) gross neglect. This burden you have no right to subject your family to after the fact. If you desire to fly an LSA, build or buy one that fits the category. Take the materials in the KR kit, re-design it based on proven software, and power it with an 1835 VW and have fun. It has been shown several times that building an airplane from scratch is not cheaper than buying one, unless you have extensive tools, equipment, and knowledge, or you happen to be the best scrounger in the world, which most of us are not. Check out the articles written in the front of the Aerocrafter Magazine which lists all plans and kit aircraft available to date, and a similar article on the EAA page itself. Do not get mad at the FAA for enforcing the rules that they have made and clearly stated/explained. Also, expect that they will be VERY strict with the first examples that actual get in front of them so as not to establish the wrong precedence. If you don't have a medical, and can't get one, get a partner/friend to share the building costs and share the flights who has a medical and go flying. Otherwise there is always powered parachutes...
