I agree with the reasoning, but... - Through the plans, somehow, Rand Robinson takes responsibility for the structural design. When you buy the plans, this is basically what you buy. Without a valid set of plans, your aircraft would not be considered plans-built, and in many countries, you would have to prove that your design is sound, and therefore, provide convincing structural calculations;
- I also believe that we owe something to Ken Rand for his efforts, and it is therefore right that we pay a fee to his heirs for the design. (personally, I bought a set, although I already had two pirate copies of the plans, and could probably have lived without one...) Why does anyone need a plans serial number? Few KR's are built stock anyway, so are they really KR's? Who would want a stock, built strictly to the plans, KR anyway? Build a plane with the KR plans as a guide, Call it what you want, and serial number it what you want. To which Kenny added, >Don't u need to buy a set so u get a serial # from Rand Robinson???? I bought a set of plans many years ago from a guy who didn't think he'd ever build a KR. I sent in the registration page along with my personal information, and paid the extra cost for the -2S supplement to "upgrade" my set. Rand Robinson sent me a new registration page with my name and info on it and the set became mine. I recently sold my set of plans and supplement to Cris. from Rome, Italy. I called Rand Robinson and was told that a registered set of plans can be transferred to a new owner and that they have a form for doing that. Poor Cris- although he now owns a complete set of KR2 plans with -2S supplement, he still has not been able to get that registration transfer form from Mrs. Rand despite months and months of trying via fax, mail, and phone. I've tried calling several more times myself, but no joy. The bottom line is that they can be sold and registration transferred as long as more than one KR is not built from one set of plans, but good luck getting in touch with them to have it done. Maybe certified mail? Courier? FedEx? Kique- hola y bienvenido a un grupo de "avia-locos"!
