If you all recall, a week ago I reported on the Net that I had a very prominent knock in my engine and asked for any comments or suggestions on what it could be. To my surprise, I received very few replies to that post. Anyway, I started by checking the rod bearings and journals on the crank. All was fine there as everything was in spec and the bearings all looked good. I checked the thrust play on the crank and it was in spec. As a matter of fact, I found no problems with the crank or anything hooked to it. I next removed the valve covers and found that a couple of lifters were not pumping up so I decided to order a new set and replace them all. As I removed the lifters and upon careful inspection, I found that one lifter on the number one cylinder bank was scarred pretty bad on the flat surface area of the cone where the rod rides in the lifter. This tells me that the rod was not seated down in the lifter properly and was riding on that flat surface. The scaring was completely around the cone. I also found that this rod was warped by three thousandths. After I replaced all the lifters and that warped push rod, I test ran the engine again today. Happy to say, she now sounds healthy and very smooth. I am getting real close to being ready to fly again. I am working on the final paint on my left wing now. Once that is finished which should be this week, I will install the wing and will be ready to fly. I am looking forward to getting back in the air. Once the KR gets in your blood, it is an addiction!!!
