I don't recall seeing an answer to your question and that is totally 
understandable.  No one will be giving you an "off the cuff" answer 
to something that requires hours of engineering study in order to 
provide a viable answer.  By asking the question, I'm guessing you 
don't have the expertise to safely analyze the structure 
yourself.  There was a KR "spin off" built this way but it was not a 
standard boat with foam replacing ply but was a total re-design .  It 
has not yet flown.

I would recommend you either build the KR in it's given form or do 
some research for models already designed to be built the way you 
intend to build.  You will save a great deal of time over trying to 
re-invent the wheel.
