I thought exactly the same thing, so I ordered some .016" stainless. I took it out of the box and said "geeeez, this is way too heavy!", and I still have it leaning up against the wall. If the .005" and lightweight fiberfrax does the job, anything else is dead weight. I think it was .004" that I found eventually, backed it with 1/8" fiberfrax, and I'm pretty happy with that. A little quick math shows you're talking 8.5 pounds vs my .98 pounds. Some KR and Corvair folks would donate an organ to save 7.5 pounds...
