It's incredible useful! Complete access to modify or troubleshoot anything behind the panel, and I can access it within five minutes, which involves only removing the top of the cowl (2 minutes) and the top deck (three minutes). Total weight consists of two feet of aluminum piano hinge and a little micro/flox mix to connect the halves to the deck, and about 20 #4 wood screws to fasten it to the longeron. I can't imagine the extra weight being more than two pounds. It's a total no-brainer to me. There are some details of the connection at http://www.n56ml.com/kmlfd.html .
