I BET  he was a 'tinkerer'!  From what we've uncovered so far about the mills, 
an owner could make extensive changes upon first obtaining the bloody thing and 
then do little else for quite a long time.  Or, an owner could twiddle with the 
darned things almost all the time . . . . . . . .  Thanks for the additional 
info.
