Best to book any room for Oshkosh you need right now. I typically stay right on the airfield camping and love it. One year I brought the family and camping was not on my wife agenda. We stayed in a hotel which was probably about 10 miles north of Oshkosh (just a Holiday Inn Express). Decent rate (approx $100/night), but only because we booked way in advance. There is plenty to do in Wisconsin besides Oshkosh. We took the kids to the Wisconsin "Dels" which has plenty of water parks and shopping for the wife and kids. Can't help on flights, but I suggest booking those in advance to save money. Same day flights cost quite a bit extra. Next question is How do we get to Oshkosh as we will be flying into L.A. but from there I still haven't figured out what to do.
