There is definitely a generation change of interests, I'm noticing that in other areas as well regarding antique technologies and collectibles (such as radio receivers, antique engines) dropping in price and interest dropping off. I have a friend who has collected railroad grade pocket watches (and that's a fantastic story in itself!) that were very valuable not too many years ago, now worth more for the gold in them.
What this means for American industry and capability who knows. I was in state university in recent years and there were a lot of smart young people around me. Maybe the "knowledge revolution" of higher technology is our "thing" now and basic manufacturing is not? Not to get too far off topic but here is a video showing the efforts which went into making the best watches in the world around the WW2 time frame (skip ahead to about the 6 minute mark). It's absolutely incredible. https://youtu.be/CWsE5m0gttQ As to me, building or owning and flying a KR will stay on my bucket list until it gets done or I kick the bucket. I have a very well finished Kr1 boat stage, wing skins/tail feathers, instruments, no FWF. It's a great start. Depending on if we have a true economic depression or a sharp recession, hoping to power it with something like a d-motor. _______________________________________________ Search the KRnet Archives at https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/.
