Hi there,

No, I've not installed Aerobrakes yet on mine for 2 main reasons -

1. With the retractable gear KR-2 not sitting as proud as most conventional
gear KR's, it doesn't take much stopping power for tail rise articulation
resulting in a prop strike if your stick/taxi discipline is distracted.

2. Once setup correctly, I've managed to get my drum brakes to hold a full
power check with an 80hp engine. Admittedly as many have said previously, the
drums are not perfectly round and they do lose effectiveness when warm/hot so I
treat them as taxi aids and never taxi faster than I'm prepared to hit
something. I have purchased a set of Aeroconversions machined
drums($200.00/pair) but haven't fitted them yet.

I would consider the install of Aerobrakes as they'd be quite an easy install
requiring a kit($350.00), 2 x Master Cylinders($75.00 each), 1 x extra Parking
Valve if you wanted parking brakes($25.25), 2 x small spacers and, depending on
your rudder pedal setup, some work to install master cylinders.

I believe Parley Byington has upgraded to disc brakes on a retract KR-2 so it
would be worthwhile getting in touch with him.

Your retracts would still work after any sensible upgrade from your current
brakes, it's just a matter of deciding which route you want to follow with your
very own KR-2.

Kind regards,

Thank you so much Brad for your link for the upgrade of my KR2 breaks. It
looks like will cost $350 for the replacement. Have you actually done the
same upgrade on your KR2 breaks? Not sure how difficult is it to do the
replacement on the break? Do you have any pictures to show how was your
breaks before and after the replacement? Mine is retractable landing wheels
and not sure if it can still be retractable after the break replacement?
