Good piece of writing Larry. Thanks for sticking up for our marvelous little flying machines. Mating the VW engine to the light, strong airframe of Ken & Stu's design was one of the significant developments in general aviation. I've done the same thing, mostly on forums I guess, over the years. Rutan gets all the attention . . . which is fine, he deserves it, but ignoring Ken and Stu's accomplishment in the process is annoying and if I had a sub to Kitplanes I'm sure I would have been moved to write something similar to your excellent reminder to the editor/author. Who wrote it? Dave Martin, former editor of Kitplanes, used to be a member of Chapter 14 down at KSDM before he moved to Oregon. Such misinformation as you've responded to in the article wouldn't have not gotten past his editorial eye.
A good example of how history gets twisted over time and is not to be trusted at face value.
