Yes, I did something similar on N56ML and for the same reason, easy access for removal. I used socket headed cap screws so they could be accessed and removed with minimal size holes in the skin, and the need for only a ratchet, an extension, and a small diameter Allen head socket.

I'm not touching the taildragger vs tri-gear debate. I like them both, but sometimes one is better than the other, like a tailwheel for the unfortunate case of landing in a plowed field!
