Keep close tabs on your vision for the next year or so. Following cataract
surgery a couple of years ago, I developed scar tissue build up behind the new
lenses. About a year after the lense replacement, my vision degraded to the
point where I was unable to read any part of the eye chart and could no longer
read the GPS or see traffic. My vision was much worse than it had been with
cataracts and I had to temporarily ground myself. It was a simple laser
surgery to break up the scarring with about a 1 day recovery. Roughly 30% of
cataract surgery patients develop scarring that requires the laser surgery to
correct.

I want to follow up on my post cataract surgery this past week. The interest of
this update is how it affects your flying. I let this desease go untreated to
the point that I developed double vision. I could not drive safely, let alone
fly.

I have now completed my second surgery and I am amazed at the results. I now
have 20/20 vision and my vision has returned to normal. If you have been
diagnosed with this desease, don’t let it ground you. The procedure is only 15
minutes long on each eye and there is no pain related to it. Expect at least a
week or so between procedures.

Take care
