Yuri, gee that was FAST!  Thanks a million.  i've been at this for a couple 
of days now.  i figured i'd have to do something like you suggested.  My 
version of Linux doesn't provide a way to implement the first possibility 
(PCLinuxOS) so i'll try the second.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.  They are really appreciated.
