I wasn't thinking about |alloca()| vs. |malloc()|, I was thinking about |alloca()| vs. VLA. Many debuggers can do extended type/range checking based on memory location - but such features usually only work with normal variables (including arrays) and not with memory coming from |malloc()| (but I am not sure whether this works with |alloc()| (unlikely) or VLAs (more likely as -g seems to provide all neccesary information)). ---- Bye, Roland -- __ . . __ (o.\ \/ /.o) roland.mainz at nrubsig.org \__\/\/__/ MPEG specialist, C&&JAVA&&Sun&&Unix programmer /O /==\ O\ TEL +49 641 7950090 (;O/ \/ \O;)
