No, we don't own the tree (not even the parts we add), OS/Net community
"owns" the tree (if "owns" really fits here) where the review system, C
team and gatekeepers are responsible to make sure that no junk enters
the tree. We can only make suggestions and then try to convince the
others that this is a good idea...

Uhm... this is "normal "for a code review (at least for those who are
doing software development in a company). You may look at other projects
like Mozilla.org (which is often "praised" for their
review/superreview/approal system) where the bickering about each single
file can be much worse than our little chat about the *.diff files.
