Hi!

----

The OpenSolaris.org "busybox" project is now "open". The project will be
based on ksh93 and should provide a "busybox"-like (see
http://www.busybox.net) all-in-one utility environment for embedded
systems. Further information can be found on the project's home page at
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/busybox/

The OpenSolaris Busybox project
(http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/busybox) is now live.

This project is about providing busybox( www.busybox.net) equivalent
on OpenSolaris. The project will use the code-base of ON. Where
multiple command sources are present (ex: /usr/bin,/usr/xpg4/bin,etc),
the project would choose the source code base that is most standards
compliant and aware of multibyte characters.

The short term goal is to come out with two outputs:
* Shell integration of stand-alone commands in a modular manner.
ksh93 will be the shell of choice for the same.
* All the identified commands housed in a stand alone executable.

Future possibilities include:
* Optimizing the libraries for size and resources, generating
customized libc with reduced functionality.
* Providing options to customize the set of features included in the
commands in the interest of minimization.

Any feedback is welcome. The project development related discussions
will happen on the mailing list "busybox-dev at opensolaris.org".
Discussions of wider interest will happen on the "
appliances-discuss at opensolaris.org".
