An addendum to my earlier post:
I suppose the "export ON_BUILD_AST_L10N_CATALOGS=1 CW_NO_SHADOW=1" in the last 
step of instructions 
(http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/ksh93-integration/downloads/2007-04-19) 
disables shadow compilation and provides better build time.
