There is a third alternative. Develop a program to convert nmake Makefiles into solaris-style makefiles (and perhaps the reverse). This way updates would be easy to handle since changes in nmake makefiles would generate changes in solaris makefiles. I think that Glenn Fowler and J?rg Schilling could work together to understand each others make version and come up with nmake to make translation programs. David Korn dgk at research.att.com
