[The following is an old idea which was discussed several times]
RFE: Allow libast to be used as |malloc()|-"interposer". Solaris's libc allows
other |malloc()| implementations to "override" the |malloc()|&co. function
calls and it may be interesting to do the same with libast, too.

Advantages:
- Only one allocator is active for libast-based applications (instead of two
(libc used by calls like |setlocale()|&co. and the libast one))
- libast's allocator is async-signal-safe

Notes:
- This is post-ksh93-intergation update2 work
- The following patch is experimental and needs extensive testing (currently
dbx's -check access feature is broken and we need this for the testing)
