Do you happen to have scim running? I can think of two possible causes
of these problems -- one being missing application/octet-stream (which
causes lockups in adept up to 1.90 inclusive and will be fixed in 1.91).
The second is mysterious kdesu and/or scim interaction which i have not
managed to reproduce.
