Description:
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Kubuntu 5.10 with option 'netcfg/disable_dhcp=true'
2. Set static IP, default gateway, subnet mask, hostname and DNS servers when
prompted (note that there is no option to set the local domain)
3. Upon completion of install, network works fine
4. Login, go to KDE System Settings -> Network Settings
5. Switch to admin mode and select 'Domain Name System' tab
6. Enter local domain in the "Domain name" field and click apply
7. Network is automatically restarted
8. Internal addresses are still resolved (i.e. on the same subnet), but
external addresses fail with a "Network unreachable" or "Connection refused"
error
I have been unable to fix this problem after it occurs. Only solution
I've found is to reinstall and not touch the setting! So long as the
setting isn't changed, all seems to be OK. It shouldn't be a problem in
the first place though. Seems to be interfering with the default
gateway. I've hunted around to see if there's a way of reconfiguring,
for example through the use of /sbin/route, but I don't know enough
about it to fix things, and Ubuntu seems to work differently to the
other distros I use in this area. Can provide more information on
request.
